Zimbabwe Trade Marks


The 45 classes of the International Classification are followed in Zimbabwe. Multiclass applications are not permitted.

In terms of the Paris Convention, applicants can claim priority from a foreign trade mark application filed within 6 months preceding the Zimbabwe trade mark application.

Costs

The costs of filing trade mark applications in Zimbabwe are as follows:

  • Trade mark search (with report): USD 480
  • Filing First trade mark application (one mark in one class): USD 1200
  • Where the same trade mark is filed simultaneously in different classes, for further

    applications: USD 1050 per application

  • Claiming priority: USD 90
  • Attending to publication and registration: USD 360 per application

What we need from you to file a Zimbabwe trade mark application:

  • Certified copy of the basic application, together with verified English translation, where priority is claimed
  • Full name and physical address of the applicant
  • Goods and/services in respect of which the mark is to be protected
  • Trade mark (if it is not a word mark, a representation thereof)
  • Original power of attorney (simply signed)

General Prosecution Information:

The trade mark application is examined to ensure compliance with all formal requirements and also to ensure that there is no prior conflicting trade mark on the register.  The registry will issue an official action if there are further requirements or objections.

Renewal Fees:

Trade marks are filed for a 10-year period and are renewable for further periods of 10 years (calculated from the date of application)

Renewal charges are as follows:

  • First registration: USD 780
  • Second and further registrations: USD 660 each
